I'm thrilled and honored to be signing a contract to publish a book with the wonderful people at Herald Press. It's such a gift to be working with editors who are excited about the work and understand what I'm trying to accomplish with this book about mystics and misfits. Through dialogues with the Christian mystics and stories from my life in Christian intentional community, I am going to explore the ways we find God on the wild edges of the church.
I am thrilled but I am also many other things: cautious, terrified, anxious, prayerful. I would like to think that I could have the same goals for my work as Henri Nouwen, who said in an interview about his writing, "I don’t want to be a 'relevant' writer. I want to be fruitful. I want my work to create space where people can meet God."
Friends, that is what I pray for: the grace to offer up meaning and beauty with any words I'm allowed to publish. Ultimately, I hope that my words honor my family, my neighbors, and my church community, and that they bring glory to God.
So, please join me on this writing journey. I long for your prayers and kind words. I suspect that the writing of this book will be a deeply emotional journey, one that takes me toward painful things, toward hopes for the future, and challenges me to discover God's grace in the present mundane moments of being a parent, being a community member, and being a child of God.
*If you haven't already subscribed to my blog on my contact page, please consider it. I am working on creating a newsletter to send around with updates about my book and my writing. It will be at least a year until I finish this book. Thanks for joining me here!
